Ash Meadows General Information

Hours of Operation

Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge (Ash Meadows NWR) is open seven days a week from dawn to dusk. The refuge trails, boardwalks and outdoor spaces are all accessible during this time. The visitor center hours vary in the Spring and Fall. Call ahead at (775) 372-5435 for the most up-to-date information regarding visitor center hours and road conditions.

Make sure you drop by the visitor center for a valuable and informative addition to your trip. Walk through the interactive exhibit hall or watch the 19-minute introductory video and to check out the bookstore.

Rules & Regulations

While touring the refuge, all visitors and pets must remain on the designated boardwalks. A six-foot leash is required for all pets. Please refrain from using a retractable leash. Walking off trail creates human disturbances that can negatively impact the endemic plant and animal communities. An endemic species is a species that is found nowhere else on Earth. Due to their geographic isolation, endemic species are at a higher risk for extinction than other species. Staying on the boardwalks helps the Ash Meadows habitats flourish and ensures endemic species continue to grow and thrive.

Hunting is allowed on the refuge, but hunters must abide by all state and refuge regulations. Regulations include purchasing a Federal Duck Stamp, a conservation tool required for hunting on a refuge. Stop by the Visitor Center to pick up seasonal information and to purchase your Federal Duck Stamp. The stamps are available to anyone, and 98% of the purchase price goes directly towards conservation efforts. The Federal Duck Stamp is one of the easiest ways to contribute to wildlife habitat conservation.

Note: Although the roads are maintained for regular vehicles and motorcycles, road conditions vary due to inclement weather and general effects of use. It is best to call ahead for road conditions, especially during inclement weather.
